NEW UPDATE

Hello! I'll make this quick; I have played through Mothership and saw some room for improvement. So I got to work and revised the Mystery! Please check it out and let me know your thoughts on it! Below are the changes, and why the changes were made

  • Changed the intro
    • I changed the Intro for several reasons: to better fit the new Locations, to have a more coherent reason for how the Latchkey ended up with the egg, and to twist the knife a bit regarding the Alien and The Egg.
  • The Latchkey who ended up with The Egg takes a new semi-permanent Condition called “Mama.”
    • When I ran this Mystery for my Public Access group, the player who got the Egg stuck with it the whole time. It caused issues, sure, but the image of a huge bulky man carrying a giant Egg around and really embracing the mother role was fun. Plus, it further cements the weird psychic connection the Latchkey has with The Egg.
  • Removed The Crash Site and The Diner, replaced with The Mitchell Horse Ranch (divided into three Locations: The Barn/Stables, The House, and The Field)
    • The Crash Site was straight up not an interesting Location! With the Horse Ranch, there’s a place the Latchkeys can go back and forth to as the Mystery progresses, and aliens crashing outside of people’s barns in the countryside is a alien classic
  • Revised Mama’s Description
    • I’ll keep it concise: the original description of the Mama was just a tad too similar to The Deep Lake Devil’s from On Strange Wings.
  • Changed The Mystery Key
    • Originally, it was The Key of Classified Information (Narrate a secret that you keep from your parents.) Not only is that Key similar to The Key of Dungeonering from Greetings, Travelers, I felt like I could take it a step further. SO, the new Key is The Key of Motherhood.
  • Revised the Clues
    • Clues are hard to write, ya’ll. There’s not even an exact science to it, it’s more of an art.
  • Removed Hughie
    • Had fun playing him, but with this new version of this Mystery, he no longer fits. But he’s a lot of fun and if you want your Latchkeys to deal with a little shit, here’s his description below. Drop him in your game, I promise he doesn’t bite
  • Added Deputy Sheriff William Shepard
    • You know the trope: local cop is annoyed that a bunch of city slicking feds come to their small town to call the shots.
  • Revised The Rewards
    • Nothing too crazy; I removed the baby blanket (the baby blanket is now a Clue) and replaced it with a horse! Why? Because h o r s e
